SMOE - Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education English Program in Korea

Application Process for SMOE Program


1. Arranging Job interview with SMOE


Korvia Consulting Recruiter will recommend you to SMOE office after phone call for asking routine question and answering you some questions that you might want to know. In order to arrange a job interview you need to provide below items to Korvia Recruiter.

A. Formal Resume and Cover Letter

B. SMOE application form (including personal essay and self medical check form)

C. Academic GPA of BA and MA Degree

D. Sample Lesson Plan (one or two pages)

E. Copy of Two reference letters

F. Available phone number and range of time that SMOE can call you.

*  SMOE interview schedule is between 9:30AM ~5:00PM (KOREAN TIME)

 

2. Preparing required document for final acceptance


You need to send list of required document to Korvia Office (recruiter) so SMOE can finalize your application. Once you accepted by SMOE office you will be able to apply your visa with NOA (Notice of Appointment) and final copy of contract.

*  Your documents need to be sent by express mail service such as FEDEX or DHL

 

3. Issuance of NOA and Final copies of contract.


SMOE will issue NOA and two final copy of contract for your visa application and these documents will be sent to your home address by DHL.  

* Home address on application should be accurate and available. SMOE does not re-issue these documents a second time and your application will be automatically canceled if you do not receive these documents at the proper address.

 

4. Applying E2 visa at nearest Korean consulate


You need to visit or send mail for applying for the E2 visa and NOA and one copy of the contract must be submitted. You can keep another copy of the contract but you must bring this copy when you come to South Korea. You must fill in E2 visa application form and please contact nearst Korean consulate in advance because some of consulate requrest Copy of BA diploma and copy of Criminal background check.

*You should contact your nearest Korean consulate before you apply

 

5. Book your flight ticket

Book your flight and send your full flight itinerary to your recruiter. SMOE will pay 1.3M KRW cash for your flight regardless of your flight cost so you better find cheapest flight so you can save you money. Arrival date will be announced by SMOE and your recruiter will inform you when you arrive at the INCHEON airport.

*Please have a look at living guide book for SMOE teachers. It will help you understand more about Korea before you come to Korea.

  

6. Attending Orientation


Once you arrive at the INCHEON airport, KORVIA will guide you to take a shuttle bus for your orientation. SMOE Orientation usually takes about 7~10days and applicant's placement will be announced during this orientation. Medical test (including TBPE and HIV test) will be done during orientation and applicant must pay for this medical examination.

 

7. First day of School


Your employment starts from first day of school and you may need to show your employment contract as well as "Residency certificate" for your free income tax.  Government public school teacher can have first two years of income tax exemption according to Double Taxation Agreement.

*Income Tax Exemption does not applying to Canadian and Irish citizens
